M5 > M30

Unread post by autopro »

Hi Immy/Steve (or whoever is relevant to this :) )...
I'm wanting to go up a level to trade M5 (instead of M1) and I believe that the
appropriate higher TF is M30 for the trend for this (i.e 5 times higher, as in M1>M5)
With this in mind, can you tell me the appropriate setting for each of the AimS indicators ?
Thanks...
Jeff

Hi Jeff

I haven't done any research with the indies on M5, so can't really give a qualified answer. It would be nice if you could just multiply all the options by 5 but a 75pip AIMS Box wouldn't do you many favours on M5.
The AIMS Box setting is there to manage your pip risk (as initial SL goes the other side of the AIMS Box) ... 30 pips might be reasonable on M5. For AO, I've had a play with 0.001 and that seems ok. These two settings give the powder blue dots and reduce number of entry alerts being shouted out. If you're happy to eyeball the entry alerts (almost reverting back to the original indicator settings), you could switch both those filters off.

I'd recommend having a play and doing some backtesting, to see what looks good. Others may have already done some research - it would be great to hear what works best.

cheers
Steve

OK excellent Steve, thanks for your feedback,
i will demotest based on your comments,
so i'm assuming these therefore correct?...

AimsBox>MaxBoxPips= 30
EntryAlert>FilterAOValue= 0.0001
EntryAlert>FilterAimsBoxPips= 30
AimsWaves>CloseToZL= 0.0001 (???)

Thanks

HI Jeff

0.001 for AIMSWaves and AO Filter - unqualified suggestion :-B
The rest looks good for testing purposes and as a starter.

On second thoughts, 0.001 is looking a bit high. Perhaps try 0.0008 (or lower when London isn't open).

Oh, OK so i had too many zeros! (rofl)
I'll try .0008 then and see what happens,
I'll assume this is for both parameters mentioned above ?...

zero ... nothing in it :D

yep - for both the alert and waves. If you don't like too much orange then you can reduce the value for the waves but you need a bit more latitude for the alerts.

Let us know how you get on with these settings.
