AIMS boxes

Unread post by sptrader1 »

Hi,

I have noticed that after several breakouts of an AIMS box (where I am now in a trade), it then become a new box as if there was not ever a breakout of that box. It is almost like a re-paint after I am in the trade. Is this something I should be concerned about or am I doing something wrong? Do I still stick with the trade?

Thanks.

Have you got a picture as an example? An AIMS box is a fractal and a fractal never changes and never 'repaints', so it might just be the way you're interpreting a new AIMS level.

Hi Dave,

See attached, I posted 2 setups, one from 745am CT and another from 845am CT. After I entered the trade, an AIMS box formed over the candles as if there was technically no breakout. Thanks for your help.

Hi SL,
Nothing to worry about there, that's just the natural structure of fractals and AIMS boxes. A fractal/AIMS level will be formed every time a candle has a high that has two lower highs to its left and two lower high's to its right (and of course the opposite for a lower fractal).

So if you take an entry on a break of an AIMS level and a new higher or lower AIMS level forms your entry was still valid and there's no need to panic.
What's more important is understanding what this new level means. Remember that fractals/AIMS levels show the structure of the price action as a series of swing highs and swing lows. And when these fractals are showing a stepping up pattern, with both higher highs and higher lows, then we know we are in an uptrend on the current timeframe. So if we look to, for example, the M5 chart and see this familiar stepping up pattern, then we drop to the M1 chart and see a chance to take a S1 in the direction of the stepping up on the M5 chart, then we are now trading breakouts in the direction of the higher timeframe trend.
So in your picture all that new level is saying is that a new AIMS high has formed and that that new AIMS high is higher than the previous level, which was the level that you took your entry at. If this corresponds with a higher AIMS low then we now have that stepping up pattern of AIMS boxes showing a series of higher highs and higher lows. Hope that helps!
