Aims Box Sizes

Unread post by Darren »

I have seen somewhere Immy stating the maximum size boxes that you can trade on the 1 min and 5 min time frames but I have been looking and can't find it anymore!

I know the Aims box for 1 min EJ should be ideally less than 15 pips, but what about the 1 min and 5 min EU boxes?

Cheers,

Darren

15-20. the tighter the better.
You can find out these levels for any pair and time frame. Simply look at the ADR of a pair. take 10% of it. that should be the best lowest possible risk based on swing levels. I have given a table , as a rough guide somewhere. I don't remember where...hmmmm

e.g. my research suggest that since nov 2012, over the past 65 sessions, the average swing in pip value (average pip value between upper and lower aims levels) for EJ m5 during London to NY session is 25pips and 16pips for m1 for the last 25session. And If thats the average we need to find aims boxes that are tighter than that so that we can get atleast a 1:2 trade between the average. so if I start with a 15pip box on m5, and I'd expect it to stop and retrace a bit within the next 10-20 pips and form an upper and than if we are lucky a lower aims level and breakout again and may bring us 30-50 pips. which should do the trick. I'm just giving hypthetical/academic type examples. of course its not as accurate like this during trading live but this gives you an idea. e.g. loook at EJ m1 11..19 today GMT+2 from the bottom of aims level 125.31 to peak where the wave ended 125.89 we have 58 pips wave. and 4 aims boxes. 58/4 = 15 pips. So with a 15pip SL we had the opportunity to set targets anywhere between 15 pips to 45 pips. 1:1 to 1:3. So a 15 pip box and less would be ideal for us. The tighter the box the more chances of getting more pips out of a wave. the bigger box the less pips we may get out of the breakout wave.

I hope it makes sense.
