MT4 runs very irregular

Unread post by Jethro69 »

Hi fellows,

I face the following problem with MT4, the candles move very irregular, sometimes with gaps from 15-20 sec. Gaps from 3-5 sec is the norm. It's very good visible because of the “remaining candle time” indicators.
I'm using a Alpari Pro demo account currently. I know that I got very crappy internet connections down here, but I'm trying already 10 different so far, including mobile network.
Am I the only one who experience this, or might it be a MT4 or Alpari thing?

Hi

Best to check with Alpari first, call them, even if you have demo account they are usually good to respond and will look at your problem and suggest a possible solution. Moreover, try some other broker and see how their mt4 performs, the pro account Alpari one had issues in the past as well, i had to move my account. But I trust Alpari and others too (Snorm excluded) cheers

Thanks for the reply Immy,

Just opened another account which runs on MT4, which behaves exactly the same. So either I have to live with it, find another connection, which I don't think I'm able to get here. The last thing is to install a MT4 copy on another computer and looks if it behaves the same. :((

After installing another MT4 with another broker, which behaves exactly the same, Alpari didn't have an explanation as well. I noticed the following.
My candle will only move and/or cound down when there is a change in V-Volume tick, so is that a normal behaviour, or are there some settings that I might have wrong?

The candle should ONLY move when there is a volume change. The movement is based on ticks on information sent out by your broker to your platform. We, and you, MT4 platform users use, what they call the front end of MT4, the customer end and the back end is on their servers. As they get information from their banks/market makers they formulate it into ticks and those are sent out to your mt4. your mt4 processes that information and displays it into chart/graphic form. Technically if there are no new ticks (ie. volume) there will be no activity on your mt4. Mt4 by default simply waits for next "command" tick and changes are displayed as a result of the change of input that is the tick volume. i hope this helps. (ps: all brokers send different tick volumes depending on how they design their data)

Just got the data from a classic live account, and now it looks a lot better. Had some fellow from Alpari on the line tonight, he said they have far more demo accounts than live accounts and thus the servers on the demo might be slow.

On the other hand the spread went up from an average 0.9 Pips(demo) to average 2.2 Pips(live) ~x( :ymdaydream: :-? (whew)
