A Newbie is confused, MT4 spread

Unread post by Jethro69 »

Hi guys, just joined Aims thist week, and the Aims concept seems so far clear to me. Of course I have to go go deeper in I read the manual, it's advised to read it at least 5 times. I would say I read it another time, and resume all the important matters together, so in doubt I can find quickly. ;)

My problem is now the MT4. I crashed my Windows to a state to no return on my Ultrabook, however I managed to get it running under Linux 12.04, managed to install all the indicators, and maybe some more I shouldn't ???

What I',m wondering now, I downloaded it straight from Metaquotes, but the Spread seems to be all the time more than 20 Pips. (I hope i"m right assuming one Pip is the 4 figure behind the dot). I was asking auntie Google abaout that. When you see the Ask/Buy price , also in the screenshoot, this seems to be more reasonable.

Opinion, better set up another account, or is there someting fucked up in the settings?

Hi Jethro
Try opening a demo account with any reputed broker and using their demo instead.

Spread is usually the second figure from right to left for a 6 digit quote such as 1.60000 sell quote against 1.60010 = 1 pip spread not 10pips spread. if quote was 1.6000 against 1.6010 then spread would be 10 pips. checkout the pic attached. I hope this helps.

Allright, opened a Demo with Alpari, and indeed the spread is now around 1 Pip. :-bd

I tried today a bit to get comfortable with MT, beceause so far I used it only for checking charts, and installing different indicators. When I tried to put a PO, it was refused, it's written the distance between order and current price must be 20 Pips, although that's not right, it's actually 2.0 Pip.
However I was way to slow anyway i-) , but my aims box was only 3Pip wide, what are the tactics in such case, just let it go. I know some here got alpari as well as broker, same limitations?
